Quilt Artists at John L Edwards School
These smiling young ladies from John L Edwards School created the 'Shoelace Heart Square' (center right). Unfortunately, the quilt panel including their square was stolen in May, 2009.
The two girls shown in the photo are the artists who designed and made the “Shoelace Heart” quilt square. They were second grade students at John L Edwards School in Hudson, NY at the time. The girls were honored when BoPH founder John Farrell visited the school to do a concert in celebration of the schools contribution to Bridges of Peace and Hope.
The girls were quite excited and nervous about standing up in front of the whole school plus lots of teachers and parents and newspaper reporters. Their smiles tell the whole story.
During the 2008-2009 school year students from John L Edwards School partnered with John Farrell on another “Bridges” project. Second Grade students from the school joined with students from Coxsackie-Athens School District in a “bridge walk” to raise awareness and funds for a local lighthouse in need of public support. For the event, John Farrell wrote a song about the Hudson Athens Lighthouse called “So Your Light Will Continue to Shine.” More than 250 students, teachers, and parents from the two schools walked across the mile long Rip Van Winkle Bridge from opposite sides to meet in the middle. Both groups were singing the song as they walked. Following the walk the two groups of new friends gathered at Cherry Hill Orchard, high above the east shore of the Hudson River to have a picnic and sing more songs of peace, hope, and friendship.
